Peppermint essential oil is good for ailments such as asthma, colic, fever, flatulence, headache, nausea, chest congestion and vertigo. This oil is supposed to be great for mental fatigue and depression, refreshing and stimulating with its menthol content. It is said to be good for the skin and is used in lotions to treat sunburn, itching or inflamed skin. It helps fight bad breath and gum infections when used in mouthwashes. When used in oil burners, it is not only medicinal but also repels mosquitoes and other insects.
Peppermint is native to the Mediterranean, but now it is also grown in other European, American and Asian countries. The findings prove that mint has been used since ancient times in Egypt, Greece, Rome, China and Japan. According to Greek myth, Persephone's beloved wife turned a nymph named Mentha into a mint plant in a fit of rage. According to Pliny, mint was used to crown the Greeks and Romans during festivals. It has been used medicinally in England for the past couple of centuries.
